As the assets grow more and more detailed (which is a good thing, I'm not complaining), what about, as an additional bonus (not as a replacement for existing asset "spots") low-poly background buildings?
If I want to populate a landscape with hundreds or thousands of assets, even if they're only instanced, I'm wasting a lot of ressources on details I will never be able to see. Just a few (probably cuboid shapes) with PBR textures should go along way in speeding up the process of building larger cityscapes.
Today, I usually build this myself by rendering an orthographic view of an asset and its normal and specular maps, so it's not a must-have, but BigMediumSmall did it and I really appreciated the effort.
