Cargo workflow is unbearably slow
Mike Wuetherick
I've bought dozens of the Kitbash packs, they're great, love the content, but the workflow with Cargo is just unbearable.
It's fine if you are loading an entire pack, you just trigger the import, go to lunch while the software imports the whole pack, but loading content from Cargo is just painfully slow - when it works.
I clicked 'import' on a single model from a pack and 15 minutes later Unreal is STILL processing files - and even worse, cargo doesn't give any kind of progress to indicate how long this import might take.
This is such a downgrade from 'just using the packs' that we used to be able to do that it makes me sad.

I agree, its very very slow to work with Cargo and Unreal - at least in Unreal 5.4.3. Each asset has to be brought in one by one, and the import takes a long time even on a very fast computer with an RTX3090.

Unfortunately, my PC is an antique. Now it's in such a state, I can't even create a new project. Good grief! Time to upgrade, but it may be a while before I can test import speed. (Will try to update then, although a new PC is going to be faster....)
I can say the download speeds are much better, for sure. That's nice!

Just wanted to get some feedback here to see if sentiment remain?
We've made some significant improvements in the overall stability of downloads and imports, and in the last 1.2.0 update we've decreased import times by an average of 50%.
If it still feels unbearably slow I'd love to know what parts suck and how we can be more efficient.
Thanks!

Steven Chen love the changes, especially the download progress bar! As for speed, i cant say much as Im on a slow connection but that being the case, I have not had downloads freezing like they used to

Steven Chen I have noticed the decrease of download and import time, and I think the progress bar is a great enhancement. However, if you could manage the ability to select what you want to download and import, then with one click start download and import and execute them in parallel, I think it would be another great enhancement, because you could execute this out of work hours
Steven Chen
Willem Grooters Yea we had actually considered putting that into the original Download Queue update as a means to simplify workflow, I agree with you that happening in parallel and reducing the number of clicks to do this would be really helpful. We had some technical reasons to not do this right now, but it's certainly something we want to do as we start taking on importing in bulk.

Steven Chen You can't multiple-select things, and you can't set multiple things to import into Unreal (ie. so you can walk away). So you literally just have to sit there and import assets one by one into Unreal. The time sink is huge, unfortunately. And of course we don't get example maps with Cargo, so you then only have the raw assets, and can only START building with them then. It just takes so so long.
Steven Chen
Virtual Filmer Thanks! That's covered in https://kitbash3d.canny.io/admin/feedback/cargo-feedback/p/feature-request-multi-select-assets-for-downloading-and-importing?boards=cargo-feedback&sort=new which we'll be building later this year. We recently released v1.2.0 with a download queue that is a step toward it.

I'm having the same issues. Downloads that fail repeatedly; software that can't be linked; no idea if the assets are downloading or if the app has crashed. This is awful. The whole idea behind supporting kitbash developers is to speed up workflow; Cargo makes life miserable. Just make all the individual assets available for download on the website along with the option to download the full kit in one go.

Richard PurvisSame here, and I have different computer systems, even a high end fully loaded macbook pro m3 and Cargo is painful if used for anything other than a catalog, and even then, it keeps defaulting to the 'store'. This is almost as bad as shopping on Temu....
Mike Wuetherick
At this rate, it's going to literally take me days to import the 15-20 assets that I need to load for this project. So sad
