[Feature Request] Cargo for Mac
in progress
Steven Chen
Exciting news! The Cargo for Mac Alpha is kicking off, and we wanted to make sure you’re in the loop.
We’re starting with a subset of Blender users as we dive into the first phase of testing. If you didn’t make it into this initial round, don’t worry—this is just the beginning. We’re planning to bring more Blender users on board soon, and other DCCs will be added as we continue to roll things out.
To stay up to date, keep an eye on the Feedback Center. We’ll be posting updates on our progress every couple of weeks. We’re thrilled to be taking this next step and can’t wait to get more of you involved as we keep pushing forward. Thanks for being a part of this journey!

Thanks for the MacOS dev effort.
I'm another Maya user.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop. I still use Modo on my iMac and look forward to being able to use Cargo in the near future. Good luck with the testing.

It's good that you're finally rolling out the alpha of Cargo to Blender users, but please don't forget professionals using Maya.
Steven Chen
Cathryn Easthope yep that's on list :)

Steven Chen That’s great. Looking forward to working with my kits with Cargo for Mac!

Thank you all for your patience as we've been working to bring Cargo to Mac. As Rick Takes, our new head of engineering, detailed in our latest blog post (https://kitbash3d.com/a/blog/qa-with-rick-takes-as-he-leads-cargos-tech-transformation) we’ve been making significant reliability and software stability updates that are also laying the groundwork for Cargo for Mac. We're excited to announce that we’re now opening our Alpha waitlist and collecting participants.
As many of you have been eagerly awaiting this feature, we’re offering an exclusive opportunity to apply for our Alpha testing program. We’re starting to gather participants now, with plans to kick off the Alpha before the end of September.
How to Apply:
Complete a Quick Survey: To help us place you in the right testing cohort, please complete this form (https://kitbash3d.com/pages/cargo-mac-waitlist). It will gather essential information about your setup and preferences.
Application Review: We’ll review the responses and select participants based on how well their setups align with our Alpha testing needs.
Access Notification: If you’re selected, we’ll send you an email with instructions on how to access the Alpha version of Cargo for Mac.
Important Notes:
Limited Spots: Please note that filling out the survey does not guarantee access to the Alpha. We have a limited number of spots and will prioritize users who match our testing requirements. If you aren’t selected for this round, don’t worry—you’ll be notified as soon as your software is supported.
Alpha Testing: This is an early release, so there may be bugs or issues. Your feedback will be invaluable in refining Cargo before the wider Beta release.
We’re thrilled to be taking this next step and look forward to working with the community during this exciting phase. Thank you again for all your support and for helping us make Cargo even better!

Steven Chen I can't wait and I hope I'm selected for the Alpha testing!

Steven Chen HI. I immediately filled in the form – but all I got was a dropdown asking me my primary 3D software. Is there a more in-depth survey lurking somewhere?
Steven Chen
Steve Jarratt Hey! First of all thank you for providing the updates for the rest of the users, noticed that and appreciate your diligence to keep the rest of the community in the loop :)
There isn't right now, we'll look at identifying users further in a followup email. Just curious though, what additional in-depth stuff were you looking to share?
S
Steve Jarratt
Steven Chen. When you say "essential information about your setup and preferences" I just figured you might like to know the type of Mac, RAM, GPU, storage (internal/external), workflows etc. if not, then fine!
Steven Chen
Steve Jarratt Ah yeah, part of the goal of the initial Alpha is also to help us benchmark performance, so we're not looking for specific details like that until later :)

An interview with KB3D's lead engineer suggests we'll be invited to test Cargo for Mac in a few days, with an alpha version available by the end of September. So the wait continues, but it's happening at least.

I just checked out the KB3D Discord and it looks like macOS support is coming soon – maybe even mid-July. Reading between the lines it sounds like Cargo was a bit of a mess, and has required a rewrite to add new features and to help create the basis for a Mac version. Fingers tentatively crossed.
P.S. Quite why I can provide this update and no one working at KB3D can, I have no freakin' idea. >Insert 'Rolling Eyes' emoji here<

Steve Jarratt - Thanks for the update.
This has been a good way for me as a new customer to take the measure of kitbash3d. This lack of communication and length of time in providing a mac client will seriously temper my expectation from them as a company, and consequently my willingness to depend on them.
It doesn't mean they suck, but they've really missed a chance to shine.

Angus Crock I've found the lack of communication on this relatively simple issue absolutely bewildering. 'Are you doing Cargo for macOS – Yes/No. If Yes, do you have an ETA? Yes/No.' That's all we've asked. And it's not that big a deal either way. If it was no, I would have shrugged and just got on with my life. Honestly, their stance on this is just really weird!

Steve Jarratt Where did you see this in Discord? I can't seem to find anything.
D
Damian Grady
Steve Jarratt Scratch that. Found it.
S
Steve Jarratt
Damian Grady It's crazy – even that major piece of news is buried in their Discord, with little or no fanfare. We truly are third-class citizens.
