I noticed some of the older kits have been removed. Would it be possible for the long time collectors that have 10+ kits to download these obsolete kits. I have 2 or 3 but I was recently looking for the building tops and didnt see them.. or maybe find a way to make them classics in a bargin bin price or something like that... who knows? I noticed some people asking about them.. unless these are going to be revisited and revised with the similar themes but more robust additions and features then that would be cool too...thank you!

We're so glad you like the classics! If you purchased one in the past, they'll always be available to download from www.kitbash3d.com
Unfortunately they are not at the quality level that we hold ourselves to today, and don't support a lot of the software that our current library does (like Unreal Engine, or PBR Materials). We've been working through the retired Kits to create new versions at the latest specs. For example:
Gothic (2017) → Dark Fantasy (2020)
Space Colony (2018) → Lunar Base (2020)
Street Size (2018) → City Streets (2021)
Wild West (2018) → Outlaw (2022)
Edo Japan (2017) → Shogun (2022)
Egypt (2018) → TBA (2023)
Fairy Tale (2018) → TBA (2023)

Maxx Burman: How on earth is Shogun a replacement for Edo Japan.. they feature almost no similar models
Seriously ..nobody cares about those Kits not being up to date they are literally labeled LEGACY kits for a reason
It makes zero sense to remove them in the first place

chris.bauer286: Precisely

For real, like seriously at least offer them at a low price if you’re not gonna support them anymore - obj, fbx and all the other file types are not going to change that quick.
But removing eco japan and “replacing it” with a new ancient japan kit that has nothing to do with it at all is just stupid and not the way to go

yeah it's kinda sad and really doesnt make sense that they are completely gone from the site

Thanks for reaching out!
The Tanks Kit is actually retired, so it’s no longer available for purchase, but if you’ve previously purchased it, you can still download and use it.
We made an intentional decision to retire specific Kits because they weren’t supported by our updated PBR workflow and simply weren’t up to the highest standard we hold our Kits to.

Thanks for this response!
Yes, I understand the internal decision--you've improved the product and want to make the line consistent. That makes sense.
That being said, I think it's still possible to create photo-real renders with the older kits, PBR materials or not. Plus, one of the great strengths of the kits has been the ability to apply your own materials using the very well thought out and labelled selection tags. So we can update/modify the models ourselves using whatever materials work best for our projects/renderer/concept--in my case reflection channel materials from C4D rendered with an HDRI dome. Having the underlying geometry plus selection tags still saves an enormous amount of time. With the older kits I could add VFX elements to my independent film that otherwise would take a long time to custom model.
Just FYI, I'm also interested in the Edo kit. Domo arigato for all the great products!!!

Steven Ibale: I really don't understand the decision tbh. They are called legacy kits for a reason. There's no point in removing them entirely - just put up a clear warning that they are retired and lower the price a bit. I'm very sure lots of people would be very interested in them and their models still.

Steven Ibale: I understand, but I feel most of the textures are nearly identical to materials used in newer kits so they could just be swapped out. And if you add a disclaimer or clarify the quality of old kits isn't indicative of newer ones would clear up any confusion I think.

Thank you everyone for sharing your feedback on bringing back our retired Kits! We certainly hear you and are excited to see so much continued interest in Kits no longer available on our site. Stay tuned for further updates on this. :)
