Hi, I just bought the American Kit to use in Unity. What's the best way to get road tiles?
Something like what is in the below screenshot but without the pavement parts.
The Highways set looks awesome, but the roads look like they have pavement attached to the side.
The Americana assets already have pavements on the buildings.
Hope that makes sense!

Hi there,
While the Americana pack doesn't have Road tiles like the image you posted specifically, as you mentioned it does have road 'edges' - basically the section of road that lines up with the building.
I took a look at the Highways pack as well, and yes you are correct that the road tiles that are provided are a combined Road + Sidewalk mesh together.
The first thing to point out is that the road elements on all of the buildings in the Americana pack are separated into their own sub-mesh. The lines on the road are separated as well in most cases.
For example, KB3D_AMC_BldgLgGroceryStore_A as shown in the image posted has the road asphalt separated from the lines / etc
Now the material that is used for that asphalt is a nice clean tiling material, so if I drop a Plane into the scene and apply the same material, suddenly I have a road that matches the other asphalt elements in the scene, like the second image.
To achieve this, what I've done is duplicate the included asphalt material (KB3D_AMC_Asphalt) and adjusted the tiling on my duplicate material to match the Americana asphalt (since I have a massive plane that is tiling the texture).
A more efficient way of building your own road pieces with this tiling material would be to use Probuilder (https://unity.com/features/probuilder) for example to lay out the road chunks and then apply the asphalt material to it.
The last couple of images are just mocking up a few of the elements together with the same tiled ground asphalt texture underneath.
For additional elements like custom road lines etc I would highly suggest you look into using the decal system provided with HDRP (assuming you are using HDRP), which you can use to scatter road clutter / apply road lines and more very easily.
Hope this helps?

Mike Wuetherick: Thanks so much for the extra info! I will have a look and report back. Yes thats right, I was able to make just asphalt pieces but I wanted the road lines also and I don't know how to make submeshes :( Maybe its time to learn :)
